Fuel your passion for travel writing with a Moleskine notebook

Before there were hi-tech gadgets where 'notes' can easily be typed and saved, I first jotted down many details of my travels on just a simple notepad. I would write down the street names that I passed-by, the directions going to certain locations and attractions, and the expenses incurred from the many establishments that I've visited along the way (costs on transportation, food, shopping, etc.). So writing down my entries on several blank pages was my way of documenting the places that I've already been to. Of course, I recorded everything that was going to be of use to me, to help me write my travel stories in full detail later on. So you can just imagine how nostalgic it felt when I started documenting my travels again (after several years) using this spiffy looking journal --- a special edition, 'The Travel Club Moleskine'. This notebook was all the more special because the company behind TTC just celebrated 20 fruitful years of being in the retail business. That's a milestone right there!

THE MOLESKINE BRAND

"Moleskine® is a brand that identifies a family of notebooks, diaries, and city guides: flexible and brilliantly simple tools for use both in everyday and extraordinary circumstances, ultimately becoming an integral part of one's personality.

Moleskine was created as a brand in 1997, bringing back to life the legendary notebook used by artists and thinkers over the past two century: among them Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Ernest Hemingway, and Bruce Chatwin. A trusted and handy travel companion, the nameless black notebook held invaluable sketches, notes, stories, and ideas that would one day become famous paintings or the pages of beloved books.

Today, Moleskine notebooks are trusted companions to the creative professions and the imagination of our own times: they have become a symbol of latter-day nomadism, and they are intimately tied to the digital world through a network of websites, blogs, online groups, and virtual archives."

MY EXCITEMENT OVER A BLACK NOTEBOOK

I've always admired the look of the Moleskine brand, but haven't really gotten the chance to buy one for myself (since the price was a bit steep for my budget then). So I was pretty excited when I finally got my own copy.

Moleskine's hardbound notebooks may just be the minimalist kind. But you'll definitely be impressed with the quality it displays (bound perfectly, no raw edges). But what I specifically loved about the journal was that it's Black (my favorite!). It looks so professional yet very mysterious in all forms.

I also love the smell from its pages, as it doesn't have the usual pungent whiff. But other than that, I also appreciated the thickness of the paper (finally, no more messy ink blots!). Plus, the hardbound cover and the garter on the side keeps everything intact.

I actually started writing and stamping on its first few pages (while killing some time in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), just to push and inspire me to write more by hand --- especially in this day and age. Hopefully, this becomes a more solid goal for me this new year. :)

  4. Hey Milet! The price of one Moleskine (regardless of the size) is indeed heavy on the wallet. But if you intend to use it, let's say for documenting your travels or for scribbling notes for potential business ideas (like what I've been doing).. then this journal is a great investment. :) My friend even shared her experience with her very own Moleskine. She bought one 6 years ago. She said and I quote, "My fave journal is also a Moleskine...6 years after, it's still intact and pages still look fresh. "

Oh, and thank you for the compliment. :) Thank you for dropping-by as well. :) Happy 2014, Milet! :)

  6. Aaahh Moleskine...been hooked since discovering the brand a few years back. I get mine straight from their website or Waterstones. Last year I bought the special edition Little Prince agenda. It's Star Wars this year. Not a fan so I opted for the plain black one. I also have the large notebook which I use as a journal. I can't single out a specific spot in the Philippines. I just know I wanna do the whole country. Well done on your purchase Mai :)

  13. Love it, one my last year’s planners was Moleskine (a gift from someone). I used to collect different
planners every year – for my collection, travel & blogger duties and one
for my personal and work-related stuff. But this year is a bit different ‘coz I only have one planner to track/plan personal and work-related things, for my
travel & blogger duties, I decided to use notebook because it will be more
convenient for me to track everything, day-by-day, which includes expenses
especially when I travel plus more pages to doodle.

  14. Here in KL it's My Teksi, and we love its service. They're very fast and efficient. Too bad we're unable to try it. When we visit Manila. For comparison sana.

  17. Nahiya naman din ako sa phone ko! Hahaha.. did you mean flagdown yung 2RM? Not bad ah.. keribels naman kasi ng KL ang gas jan compared dito.. kaya kaya nila magbaba ng presyo. :)
