2 LAZCANO: The Newest Food Joint In Quezon City!
There are plenty of food establishments in Quezon City alone, so you definitely won't run out of options. But if there's a certain area in town that you shouldn't miss out on, then that would be the eateries along Mother Ignacia Avenue. I live just a few minutes from the locale, so I decided to check out the nearby food joints with my friend Sarah, and soon discovered 2 LAZCANO.
2 LAZCANO is located at Scout Dr. Lazcano corner Mother Ignacia Avenue, Paligsahan, Diliman, Quezon City. It's a 2-floor building that currently houses 7 food establishments, 5 of which are owned and managed by the Dizon family (except Urbanidad Cafe and The Brewology). According to Sir Benjo, who we met at the Open Table during lunch, the lot was acquired by him and his 8 siblings (the Dizons also own Sushi-ya and Calle Juan). 6 of the 7 food establishments (except the Little Wine Haus) have already been operational for less than a year, some of which only opened in July.
The great thing about 2 Lazcano is that you can order from any of the eateries, and then dine/drink at your preferred place in the compound. It was such a good marketing strategy, that we ended up ordering from two restaurants all at the same time (we ate lunch at Open Table, where our Bento & Co. orders were delivered).
1) BENTO & CO
Orders: Salmon Sashimi (PHP200) & Kani Salad (PHP100)
Review: My friend enjoyed her plate of sashimi, which to her seemed like a fresh batch. My Kani Salad on the other hand was the perfect appetizer. It had just the right amount of crab and vegetable shreds (i.e. cucumber, lettuce), which all meshed well with the kewpie dressing.
Verdict: We will definitely try the other dishes, given the authentic Japanese taste and affordable prices.

2) OPEN TABLE
Orders on our 1st visit: Moi's Fish & Chips (PHP205), Baked Penne (PHP260) and Opentable Iced Tea (PHP150 good for 2-3 pax)
Review: I've always been a fan of Fish & Chips, so I definitely enjoyed the potato wedges and the tartar sauce that came with it. The fish, however well cooked it was, was too salty for my taste. Then again, the Baked Penne was the saving grace. The pasta was al dente, and the tomato and cream sauce with Italian sausage presented a delicious fusion.
Orders on our 2nd visit: Grilled Chicken and Vegetable Sandwich (PHP175) and Skillet Lasagna (PHP275)
Review: The sandwich was surprisingly good, especially with the choice of veggies that were stuffed into it (grilled zucchini, eggplant, tomato and caramelized onion). The Lasagna on the other hand, was also a flavorful dish. I'm also giving it plus points for having a generous serving of mozarella cheese.
Verdict: The newly opened restaurant has great potential, given its interesting menu and cozy interiors. I also enjoyed dining on the second floor (can accommodate 20 pax comfortably), as it exuded a chill vibe. I will surely come back and try their other offerings despite my salty encounter with their fish & chips. The iced tea was good by the way! It tasted like my favorite brew in Army Navy (Libertea).

3) THE BREWOLOGY CAFE
Orders: Waffogato (PHP160), V60 Hot Coffee (PHP160), Aeropress Hot Coffee (PHP160)
Review: I super loved their Waffogato, as the flavors of the vanilla ice cream and homemade coffee syrup complemented the buttermilk waffle perfectly. The coffee syrup was definitely a winner. The manual brews on the other hand were intense at every sip. But both can definitely standalone without the addition of sugar. I, however, loved the V60 more, as it had a lighter taste compared to the Aeropress.

Verdict: Although the 2nd-floor cafe was small in space, it still exuded a cozy ambiance given its wood accents and industrial chairs and tables.

4) URBANIDAD CAFE
Orders: Slices of Ms. Polly's Chocolate Cake (PHP85) and Carrot Cake (PHP150), and Americano/Long Black Coffee w/a piece of Chocnut (PHP100)
Review: Ms. Polly's Chocolate Cake was definitely a winner, given how moist it was (every mouthful makes me go mmmmm...). Despite being made with rich layers of chocolate, Ms. Polly's was served with just the right sweetness. The Carrot Cake on the other hand was a different story. I do, however, commend U.C. for making a cake that was very generous with its ingredients. Though I would've preferred a slice where the carrot pieces didn't feel chunky at every bite.
Verdict: I'm certain to be back, as Ms. Polly's truly won me over. I'm also excited to try their other bestsellers (i.e. Dulce de Leche Cake and Yema Tablea Cake), so I'm sure to visit again.
Aside from food and drinks, the cafe also sells other unique items such as linen sprays, odor sprays, fabric freshners, massage oils, shampoos (made from gugo bark, tea tree oil, etc.), conditioners and balms (just to name a few).
