New Year In Dubai: A Photo Walk Along The Al Seef Marina
First of all, a Happy New Year to you, Biyaheras & Biyaheros! How did you ring in the Year of the Dog? As for us, we spent the first day of 2018 by doing a photo walk along the Al Seef Marina in Dubai. It was a bit far from where we lived. But it was definitely worth traveling to, as it displayed the city's deeply-rooted culture and maritime heritage smoothly merging into urbanism.
I liked that we arrived at half-light, as the sky displayed a lovely blue and gold sunset. The view of the marina with all the yachts, Abras and Dhow Cruise boats docked by the water's edge, whilst set amidst a background of towering structures, made the entire panorama glow in unison. It was quite peaceful despite the influx of people. Even the cold weather complemented the entire experience.
I also loved how Al Seef took us into a whole different dimension. From walking its wooden pathways lined with charming boutiques and delightful restaurants to finding ourselves traversing stone alleyways that guided us towards the Barjeels (traditional wind towers) and coral stone walls, all of which were reminiscent of old Dubai. It was like we traveled back in time.
HOW TO REACH AL SEEF
Al Seef (a 1.8 km long destination) is located close to the Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood and Al Fahidi Fort on the Dubai Creek. You can access it via Dubai Metro from Burjuman or Al Fahidi. Burjuman is the closest to Al Seef (a 10-15 minute walk).
How about you? How and where did you spend the first day of 2018?
