After a rough couple of months battling sickness—from December to mid-January—I found myself desperate for a change of scenery. My husband’s birthday was approaching, and so I thought about taking a breather and celebrating his milestone with a short staycation in Manila. We decided to book a two-night retreat at Seda Manila Bay, hoping for comfort, relaxation, and maybe a little healing for our tired bodies.
I cherish birthdays not for the gifts, but for the rare chance to be with those who make life meaningful. This year, I turned 42, and it felt different. I wanted something comforting, something extraordinary. So, I chose to celebrate at Marahuyo Restaurant in Mataas na Kahoy, Batangas. What followed was a day of laughter, flavors, and gratitude, along with the stunning backdrop of Taal Lake.
- Lipa is the "Lomi Capital" of the Philippines, and you can't leave without trying a bowl of this iconic noodle soup. Liam's Lomi House and Chibong's Lomi House are both highly recommended, with Chibong's offering free Barako coffee!
- Lipa's food scene goes beyond lomi. You'll find unique local bites like fried siopao, beef pares, and pork barbecue that are flavorful and affordable.
- The city has embraced various international cuisines. You can find everything from Italian comfort food at Casa Marikit to oven-baked pizza at Antonino's Pizzeria.
- Many of the spots featured, like Chibong's and Dos Bastardos, offer great value for money, proving that you can eat well without breaking the bank.
If you ever find yourself hungry in Pasig, do yourself a favor and check out Warung in Kapitolyo. This cozy restaurant serves authentic Indonesian cuisine, and honestly, I’m still thinking about all the dishes we tried and tasted!
