Where To Stay In Penang, Malaysia: PEDAL INN

One of my must-do's when traveling to a new destination is to look for a budget accommodation --- a lodging that isn’t too far from where all the action is. That's when I found PEDAL INN via AirBNB. The lovely guesthouse is located just along Lorong Macalister, George Town, Penang.

Pedal Inn is strategically located in the heart of George Town (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). The budget accommodation is also just 10-15 minutes away by foot from the KOMTAR Terminal.

I've experienced a lot of firsts through AirBNB, and one of them is booking Pedal Inn. I knew that I had to stay at this particular guesthouse soon after reading all the wonderful reviews from previous guests. I was pleasantly surprised that every word was true, especially when my beau and I experienced everything first hand.

We were fortunate to have met the owner of Pedal Inn: Steven. He was kind enough to take the time and effort to teach us all of the Penang maps that he handed to us (thanks to him we didn't have a hard time going around). He was accommodating, nice, and was also the type who'd make sure that all of his guests would feel right at home. I actually loved the fact that we could approach him for anything --- as he was always there for us, whatever our questions or needs may be.

It was also interesting to learn about the beginnings of the lodging. According to their site, Pedal Inn was born because...

"Being cyclists ourselves, we realized that we could hardly find a place that could take us in along with our bikes whenever we are out on the road. We wanted a home away from home, a place where cyclists could meet, share a cuppa or room comfortably as well as sharing their travels with fellow cyclists. The idea of being pampered with a host of facilities tailored for the average bikepacker, a refreshing term for backpacking on 2 wheels led to the birth of Pedal Inn. A quaint 4-bedroom inn styled along the needs of the average bikepacker, Pedal Inn is set in a late 1930s double storey pre WWII shophouse.
However, Pedal Inn isn't your average B&B joint. Bedding arrangements come in a choice of mix gender & ladies only rooms where as well as a private suite for those who prefer more privacy. We have thrown in a DIY bicycle maintenance station as well as a bicycle storage area."

PEDAL INN is a comfy yet classy lodging that is ideal for couples, families and even sole travelers. Furthermore, guests can bring their bikes or even rent one from the lodging for just a minimal cost.

Pedal Inn also offers 3 Dorm Style Rooms with Double Deck Beds (maximum number of guests that can fit are 4-6) and a Private Suite with Queen Size Bed. All the rooms are located on the second floor.

We booked the Private Suite, and loved everything about it. It had its own bedside tables, dresser table, mirror, wall hooks and LCD TV. The room also had two lovely windows, and a very spacious floor area (no slippers allowed). The interior arrangement of the guestroom also exuded a modern design, and was accentuated with warm and earthy tones.

My beau and I didn't mind the shared bathroom situation, since there were plenty of individual cubicles. Plus, there was always a good supply of running, hot water.

Other than the common bathrooms, the 1st floor also consisted of a kitchen, lobby and dining area.

Learning about Pedal Inn's facilities was quite interesting too, given the infographic that the lodging provided.

We were pretty delighted to find out that we were the first Filipino's to ever stay at Pedal Inn. But we were all the more happy that we met such a kind and down-to-earth host. Steven was simply the best! And I say this with much conviction --- we will definitely stay at Pedal Inn again!
