"Champagne Luxury on a Beer Budget" only at Balay Da Blas, Laoag

Balay Da Blas in Laoag city is a gem. It was truly comforting to have found a place where we could rest our weary bodies. Sure, going around the different towns of Ilocos for 4 straight days (1 night in Vigan, 2 nights in Pagudpud) was a lot of fun. But finding a place where we could really stay for some R&R can also give a different high when traveling non-stop.

The pension house is actually located in Downtown Laoag and is just 15 minutes away from the Laoag airport. It's also near several tourist spots (i.e. Tobacco Monopoly Monument, Sinking Bell Tower, St. William's Cathedral and the Provincial Capitol) and a few well-known restaurants such as Saramsam and La Preciosa.

Lifted from Balay's website: "BALAY DA BLAS PENSIONNE HOUSE was built as a residence for the Blas Family. It was designed as a home first, which can be seen in its decor as they were chosen with care to create an atmosphere that is quaint, charming and warm. Then as Laoag City enjoyed an influx of tourists and business travellers, the decision was eventually made to open its doors to "guests"."

We were able to personally meet the owner of Balay Da Blas -- Mr. Samuel Blas. Sir Sammy was accommodating and was very hands-on with his guests.

Anyhow, since Rubel and I were on a budget, we've managed to book one of Balay's 'Standard Double/Double' room, which cost us Php1,200 for one night (rate for 2 pax). Now, some of you might still find this a bit pricey. But wait until you see what the SD/D room has to offer.

The beautiful lobby and down-to-earth staff of Balay Da Blas. :)

Balay Da Blas already had a lush, outdoor tropical garden that welcomed us. But what was more fancy was the interiors of Balay's newest building (a touch of Ilocano Moderne Ambiance). Earthy tones were all over the lobby, while complemented with a small Koi pond. The receiving area was spacious and was decorated with comfy seats, wooden tables, potted bamboo trees and other indigenous pieces.

Now, our room, which was at the top most part of the building had its own veranda. And since we were the only ones on that floor (at the time), we've managed to get the whole rooftop veranda all to ourselves. But on to the most exciting part --- our room!

Our room had an A/C unit with remote, Cable TV, Private Bath with Hot and Cold Shower and WIFI access. We were also provided with fresh towels, a cabinet, dresser, table and chairs. Our room also had a glass sliding door, from which we had a nice view of the city. Other than that, complimentary breakfast was also included in our package.

Also, should you want to order from Saramsam Ylokano Restaurant & Bar (their Pinakbet and Longganisa Pizza's are a must-try!), you can always request food from the resto to be brought to Balay. You can also order from Balay, so that when you get to the restaurant, your food's already prepared. Just have the Balay staff assist you on this particular request.

I highly recommend Balay Da Blas when you book your trip to Laoag City. The staff and the lodging would have to be 5 stars for me in terms of service, cleanliness and aesthetic. The staff will even go the extra mile for you be it with your food or tour requests. They are simply the best! :) They've truly made our stay in the Sunshine City a memorable one.

  26. I am not a traveler like you but when we go out of town or any place where we have to stay overnight... I bring along blanket, small pillows and some sheets. I just don't feel like lying down on a bed with sheets other than mine. Even they are clean and smell good. But this room looks very neat and the white bedding as well. Balay Da Blas was worth your stay, I'm sure.
