Golden Phoenix Hotel: A topnotch hotel in Pasay City
My husband and I decided to book this Pasay lodging at the last minute, to forego the stress of having to travel from Quezon City with a big luggage in tow. Good thing it was perfectly situated in the city, as it was just a short drive to the airport (NAIA 3), and a short walk to SM Mall of Asia. The location itself is one of the reasons why Golden Phoenix Hotel became my favorite accommodation in Manila.
Before my husband left for his late night flight back to Dubai, he was able to experience the comfort of sleeping in Golden Phoenix's plush bed and soft sheets. He was passed out in seconds. I, on the otherhand, left our room to explore the hotel. But before we move forward with my exploration, let me review our Deluxe Twin Room first.
SMOOTH CHECK-IN
The hotel itself may have been hard to find via private car, due to the confusing location of the entrance/exit. There weren't any proper signages or directions going to the hotel, so we had difficulty reaching the place. But we were glad that our check-in was smooth, and that we were ushered to our room right away.
HOTEL FLOOR LAYOUT
The hotel is so big, that you'd have to use an escalator to be able to access the floor of your room. But then we realized why we needed to be accommpanied to our 'Deluxe Twin' because the layout of our floor was confusing. During the times that we left our room, we would find ourselves entering different doors and getting lost in hallways because there weren't enough signages to help take us to the right areas.
A DELUXE TWIN ROOM WITH A VIEW
But what the hotel lacked in signages, they made up in the configuration of their rooms. The first thing that we noticed about our accommodation was that it was super spacious. I could probably do several cartwheels inside, as it was quite sizable (you can probably fit a family of four or even more!). I also loved that the interiors had a modern yet stylish design, and that the neutral tones used in the space exuded a relaxing ambiance.
Our Deluxe Twin Room was also furnished with 2 Queen size beds (complete with soft sheets and plush pillows), both of which appeared longer (in terms of size) than the usual hotel beds that I've tried before. Of course, the bed was divine! The chiropractor-approved mattress definitely helped with my back pain.
Our non-smoking room also had a long desk and seating area. We got to lounge by the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, where a nice view of the city greeted us (MOA Arena can be seen on the right side).
My husband and I could enjoy a date straight from that corner. And all we needed was some food and wine to complete the experience. But since it was too early for such, we opted to just have some hot drinks, which we made using the Coffee & Tea Maker in the room.
IMPRESSIVE TOILET & BATH
I'm a sucker for well-appointed bathrooms, especially those that are equipped with rainshower heads. But what I'm particularly impressed with was the inclusion of free toiletries. We weren't provided with just the ordinary supply, as we were given eco-friendly kits. I really loved this about the hotel, as they showed real concern in saving the environment. More hotels should definitely follow suit.
I also enjoyed having a clean bathroom that had a bidet, hairdryer and extra towels, some of which we no longer had to request extra for. There were also bathrobes that we got to wear, a weighing scale and a full length mirror.
I really wanted to stay in the room and enjoy the A/C, while my husband slept. So I tried to keep myself busy by watching some TV. I loved the fact that the 40-inch LED TV played several of my favorite cable channels, so that got me tuned in for a good hour or so.
I was also impressed with the mini-refrigerator that was furnished in our room, as it had an industrial look to it. It wasn't the usual white type. Ours had a glass and transparent door, similar to the ones that you see in convenient stores, but classier. There were also other things in the room that we got to utilize like the ample power outlets. There was also an iPod docking station, a telephone, alarm clock and an in-room safe.
WHERE TO EAT AND BUY SUPPLIES
Despite having a hard time finding the hotel, the location was still quite accessible, especially if you're coming from SM Mall of Asia, DFA Aseana or NAIA.
Should you need to stock up on food and other supplies, a Family Mart convenience store can be found right beside the hotel entrance/exit. And if you go hungry, just make your way to Sea Residences (located right across the hotel), as the popular SM-owned lodging houses several convenient stores and food chains. We were glad that a Sbarro was a short walk from the hotel, so we were able to eat our dinner there.
BUFFET BREAKFAST
We got a friend to stay with me later that night, so that I wouldn't feel alone. So I was thrilled to have Paula around, who really helped distract me from Rubel's absence.
Just like me, Paula also experienced a good night's sleep. We also got to enjoy the complimentary buffet breakfast the next day. I particularly loved the Asian fusion that was served to us that morning. I also liked that they had a station that was designated for cooking fresh eggs. Of course, I had to get my Omelet fix, and wasn't disappointed with the end product.
HOTEL POOL
My friend and I were able to visit the pool. But we no longer got to swim due to time constraints. We just enjoyed looking at the blue-tiled swimming pool, as well as the panoramic view of the structures that surrounded the establishment. That in itself was enough to complete our hotel experience.
Not only did we experience the best sleep (the best one in months), we also got to relax in a spacious room that offered one of the best views in the city. I would definitely come back and stay in Golden Phoenix Hotel.
