Remembering the Fall of Bataan and our brave soldiers #BeholdBataan

I feel immensely fortunate to live in an age where freedom is now every Filipino's right to embrace. It makes me feel more grateful of the men and women who fought and sacrificed their lives, so that future generations will continue to experience a better life. I owe my present to those who've went to battle in the past, especially to the honorable war soldiers of Bataan.

Mt. Samat, Pilar, Bataan

Bataan may be historically known for the infamous 'Death March' (which happened after the USAFFE surrended to Japan on April 9, 1942), that forced Filipino and American soldiers to make a 100-kilometer march from Mariveles town to Capas, Tarlac. Despite of, the peninsular province commemorates the memory of our war heroes, especially those who've fought and showed great valor and resiliency against overwhelming odds. The fall of Bataan wasn't just about our troopers surrendering to the Japanese alliance during World War II. Remembering the region's downfall 74 years ago merits those who've fought gallantly in the battlefield.

HONORING OUR VETERANS

I've only read about Bataan in our history books back in school, so the valiant soldiers who went to war were indistinct in my thoughts. But I definitely honored them in my mind and in my heart. I would have never imagined meeting any of them, until an opportunity  came to me earlier this month.

I gradually found myself tearing up from our veterans' shared stories of bravery and courage. And those who've lived to tell their tale, amidst shed tears and fears, reminded me of how blessed I am to live the life I have now because of their sacrifices.

Being present in Bataan during the 74th Araw ng Kagitingan gave me a chance to extend my gratitude to some of our Filipino war heroes. Truly, they all deserve to be celebrated and respected for everything that they've done for the Philippines. They are our heroes!
